Matthew 17:20
"Because you have so little faith," He answered. "For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
You have an aspect of your life you want to change.
Maybe it’s to be better with money, time, spouses, to be more present with your children, to be a better coach, to get better grades, but whatever it is, it is your struggle. It is your mountain.
Your first response is to TNT the entire mountain and get it to move. Friend, not even a nuclear warhead would make very much of dent on Mount Everest. We just don’t get why we can’t get it move.
“Don’t ask the mountain To move, just take a pebble Each time you visit.”
- John Paul Lederach
Even God recognized that you couldn’t move mountains on your own. You needed faith and trust in Him that it would be possible.
God also doesn’t operate on human notions of time and space. So while Jesus promises that the mountain will indeed move when, where, how, and why it will move will not be what we probably think it will.
Self-help is a 13 billion dollar industry that markets success as a miracle moment when, in actuality it is much more like a 200 mile death march in the moment.
Breakthroughs only occur in retrospect and are often not noticed in the moment.
Next time you are faced with making a change, don’t try to do it all at once, just take a pebble with you each time.
